Boy Scouts of America has won the Award of Excellence in the 2006 Associations Advance America (AAA) Awards program, a national competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), Washington, D.C.
BSA received the award for its Good Turn for America initiative. This program is now in the running to receive a Summit Award, ASAE's top recognition for association programs, to be presented in ceremonies at ASAE's 7th Annual Summit Awards Dinner at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, on September 20, 2006.
Good Turn for America is a national call to service by the Boy Scouts of America to address the issues of hunger, homelessness, and poor health in our nation. In this effort, the Boy Scouts of America is partnering with some of the nation's most respected service organizations, including The Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, America's Second Harvest, and the Department of Homeland Security. These organizations and thousands of others will work to provide opportunities for youth and volunteers to fight hunger and homelessness, and teach the habits of healthy living.
Now in its 16th year, the prestigious Associations Advance America (AAA) Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forwardwith innovative projects in education, skills training, standards-setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship, and community service. Although association activities have a powerful impact on everyday life, they often go unnoticed by the general public.
"BSA's program truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign. It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions associations are making to advance American society," remarked 2005-2006 Associations Advance America Committee Chair Bill Bergman, CAE, president of William S. Bergman Associates.
