Calling all young people ready to help shape the future of service-learning on the national level
State Farm is proud to establish the State Farm Youth Advisory Board, charged with helping State Farm leadership design and implement a signature service-learning initiative. The Youth Advisory Board will play an important leadership role in creating and overseeing a $5 million/year signature service-learning initiative that will address pressing issues of importance to State Farm and communities across America.
State Farm is preparing to select a diverse group of approximately 30 young people ages 17-20 (applicants must turn 17 by 6/30/06 and not turn 20 until after 6/30/06) to serve on this distinguished Youth Advisory Board. The board members will represent each of 12 U.S. State Farm zones and one State Farm Canadian zone (Alberta, New Brunswick or Ontario provinces only) with three at-large members nominated by State Farm's national service-learning partners.
And that's not all!
In addition to a challenging and fun experience, Youth Advisory Board members in good standing will receive a $5,000 scholarship that may be used for post-secondary education at a four-year, two-year, or vocational training program (see application for more details). Associate Youth Advisory Board members will receive a $3,000 stipend/scholarship under the same terms and conditions as the Youth Advisory Board member for their first year of service.
The National Service-Learning Partnership applauds State Farm's continued leadership and commitment to service-learning. "In addition to the impact of this initiative on the service-learning field, young people will have the unprecedented opportunity to engage with senior executives of State Farm, one of the largest and most prominent corporations in America," said Kenneth Holdsman, senior program officer of the Academy for Educational Development, which sponsors the National Service-Learning Partnership.
"The State Farm Youth Advisory Board has the potential to catalyze and support service-learning in several new and exciting ways," said Partnership Executive Director Nelda Brown. "Thanks to this investment, young people will lead the way in helping to introduce service-learning to hundreds of new schools and communities throughout the country. I can't wait to see what happens next!"
